What is Reiki?
Reiki (a Japanese word meaning ”Universal Energy”) is a method of natural healing that was developed in 1890’s by a Japanese man called Mikao Usui. This system of healing has been passed down by Reiki Masters since that time and today is practiced worldwide. Reiki is a simple method of healing where life force energy (called Ki) is channelled through the hands of the Reiki giver to the Reiki receiver. This balances the energies in the body. Reiki is an “intelligent” energy that goes to where it is needed and not just to the area being worked on. Reiki is drawn into the body through energy centres called “chakras”.
Is Reiki safe?
The aim of Reiki is to supply the body with additional energy to use for self-healing and to restore balance and harmony. It can be used safely regardless of whatever illness the receiver has and supports and complements other medical and natural healing treatments.
What can Reiki do?
Reiki can help with a wide range of physical, emotional and psychological symptoms:
By promoting calmness and a feeling of well-being, it relaxes the body and mind, relieves stress and emotional distress, and helps to promote a positive and peaceful outlook.
What happens during a session?
You will not be asked to remove any clothing except for coat and shoes. You can lie down or be seated. The therapist may play relaxing music. During the treatment, the therapist will go through a sequence of placing hands on or near different parts of your body, depending on your preference. You may feel warmth or tingling during the session. Many people even fall asleep during the session, but this does not stop the Reiki working.
How long does a session take?
A whole body treatment can take about an hour, but short treatments can be done to focus on specific problem areas, or generally to calm in cases of stress and shock.
Reiki Attunements are also available. Please ask for details.
